Hello, I’m Dr Dave McKenna. I provide external support for parliamentary and local government scrutiny including training and development sessions, workshops and scrutiny reviews.
My work is:
- Interactive – providing space for helpful conversations
- Research informed – backed up by academic and practice literature
- Solution focussed – paying attention to what works and what’s wanted
- Grounded in experience – drawing on over 15 years working in scrutiny
Training and development sessions
I provide 2 hour interactive sessions including for committees, chairs and officers.
Typically they involve:
- Spending time exploring what already works for you
- Sharing helpful frameworks, good practice examples and tips that I’ve collected over many years
- Opportunities to reflect as a group and identify improvement ideas
Each session is tailored to your needs.
Scrutiny reviews
I can provide an independent review of your scrutiny arrangements to help provide assurance and recommendations for improvement. Reviews are designed to meet the needs of each client and involve:
- Use of a research-informed framework that assesses the outcomes, ways-of-working and conditions associated with scrutiny
- Evidence gathering through interviews, workshops, meeting observations and document review
- In-person feedback together with a review report including conclusions and recommendation
